Time for the CIO to lead the way

CIO ǀ Lead the way

You might have experienced this before – it seemed that everyone had just come back from summer vacation, and suddenly you’re facing budget plans and strategy documents for the next year. What should CIOs be focusing on in 2018 to make sure they help move their business forward? We’ve put together five tips:

Lead the way for your organization’s digital transformation

As if making sure everything stays up and running wasn’t enough, the IT department is increasingly expected to help drive the company’s business. At a time when the future is spelt digital transformation, IT suddenly has a particularly big role to play. This might seem as a close to overwhelming task, but is in fact a great opportunity. Now is the time to stand up and lead the way!

Get your C-peers on board

With a new and more prominent role within the company, it’s more important than ever that you get your fellow C-peers onboard. Sit down with them and lay down a strategy for how you can work together across departments, to make sure everyone is moving in the right direction.

Strive for an optimized process, not perfection

It used to be that everyone was striving for perfection, to be achieved before a certain deadline. Our current fast-paced landscape is more forgiving. Don’t worry if what you’re working on isn’t all it could be by the time it’s launched. Try instead to create an optimized process for how you can keep improving whatever it is that you’re working on.

Let the systems do it for you

It can be easier said than done, but strive to get user-friendly systems and solutions into place. This will require less of playing the old support role, and make it easier for you to take on the new responsibilities. Explain to your peers that a temporary learning period that inevitably follows with new changes will be worth it.

Make time to keep your ear to the ground

Busy schedules can get in the way of seemingly less pressing matters, such as finding out what everyone else is doing. But even just an hour a week of searching the Internet or your favorite platforms to keep yourself updated can get you a long way, and allow you to drive through new changes with more confidence.
